Gabii sa Kabilin is easily one of my favorite events of the year. My fellow guides and I, as well as everyone at Blu Range and even the founders Hannah and Cyrus, look forward to this annual occasion. Despite the large crowds, it is well worth enduring the masses because there are special cultural presentations only held during this event.
The Gabii sa Kabilin, or “Night of Heritage,” is an annual event in Cebu City, Philippines, that honors the region’s rich cultural past. This year’s event took place on May 12, 2023, from 6 p.m. to midnight. It’s a significant event that brings Cebu’s vibrant history, art, and traditions to life, making it the number one experience you shouldn’t miss out on as part of the list of 11 Unmissable Things to Do in Cebu City.
During this event, participants can enjoy a night of cultural immersion with numerous activities spread across Cebu, Mandaue, and Talisay cities. The 2023 edition of Gabii sa Kabilin features 22 partner museums and heritage sites that will open their doors to guests for this special night. The activities planned include indoor and outdoor exhibits, cultural presentations, children’s activities, contests with cash prizes, food bazaars, and more. The theme for this year’s event is “Pagpanag-iya (Owning our Story),” which commemorates the upcoming 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence.
Guests have the option to walk, ride buses, or take a tartanilla (horse-drawn carriage) based on the type of ticket purchased. There are two types of tickets available: tickets with bus rides and one free tartanilla ride are priced at P300, while tickets without bus rides are priced at P200. There are discounts for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and students with ID, as well as free access for children under seven years old accompanied by an adult ticket holder. The proceeds from the event will support the participating cultural institutions and future heritage projects in Cebu City.
The event also includes the Gabii sa Kabilin Heritage Hunt, where teams complete challenges at select museums and sites, along with vlogging, phone photography, and photo story contests. This year, new partners like the University of San Jose-Recoletos and Freedom Park are joining, and there will be outdoor exhibits to enhance the experience.

Recognized as a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines since 1991, the museum has recently enhanced the visitor experience through interactive and digital presentations
Built in the 1850s, Casa Gorordo was initially owned by Alejandro Reynes y Rosales and later acquired by the Gorordo family, a prominent name in Cebu. Juan Gorordo, a member of this family, became the first Filipino bishop of Cebu.
Architecture: The house is an exemplary model of “balay nga tisa” or house with a tiled roof, reflecting a mix of native, Spanish, and Chinese architectural influences. This blend, known as mestizo, is symbolic of the Filipino identity. The house itself is constructed with coral stone blocks and molave hardwood flooring, featuring wide windows with sliding panels fitted with capiz shells, typical of Spanish architecture during the colonial period.

The original garden is the Sirao Flower Garden and is called the Little Amsterdam of Cebu which is also the bigger garden, the newer one is the Sirao Pictorial Garden and Camping Site, where the instagrammable giant hand structure with picturesque background is located. If you’re more inclined to seeing a lot of flowers, then Sirao Flower Garden is the better garden for you.

Known as the “Little Amsterdam” of Cebu, the Sirao Flower Garden is a colorful and serene spot. Visit during the blooming season to see the gardens in all their glory. The blooming season at the Sirao Flower Garden typically occurs during October and November. when the celosias are in full bloom. Nonetheless, vibrant blossoms usually grace the Sirao Garden year-round (our visit in March attested to that). To ensure you catch the garden in its full splendor, it’s advisable to check in advance, aligning your trip with periods when either portions or the entire garden bursts into vibrant bloom.
Sirao Flower Garden, located in the scenic mountains of Cebu, is a serene oasis of natural beauty. It’s quite a surprise to find a strawberry farm in Cebu City! Among Cebu’s 80 barangays, 28 are mountain barangays, home to 12,000 farmers registered with the City Agriculture Department of Cebu City. Strawberry de Cantipla Farm, fondly called Cebu’s mini-Baguio (Baguio is the Philippines’ summer capital, located on the island of Luzon, where strawberries abound), is located in Barangay Tabunan, along the National Transcentral Highway towards Balamban. This strawberry farm is just 15 minutes or 9.7 km (6.0273 mi) away from Sirao Pictorial Garden and Camping Site.
Strawberry de Cantipla Farm offers a delightful strawberry picking experience at an affordable rate. The entrance fee for adults is Php 50 and Php 40 for kids. Each strawberry plucked incurs an additional charge of ₱10. In addition to the fruit picking, they serve an array of strawberry-flavored treats, including shakes, pancakes, burgers, and more. Interestingly, their seedlings come from La Trinidad, Benguet, ensuring that the strawberries’ flavor is authentically delicious and comparable to those found in the renowned strawberry fields of Northern Luzon.
